Das Economic and Social Research Center (ESCE) möchte wirtschafts- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Gesichtspunkten für die Beurteilung politischer Maßnahmen Gewicht verleihen. Das ESCE richtet sich mit seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit an AkademekerInnen, policy-maker, Verwaltungsbedienstete und WirtschaftsführerInnen. Das ESCE hat weitere Büros in Eisenstadt, Österreich und Köln, Deutschland.

Das Institut nimmt mittels seiner Studien, Projekte und der Organisation internationaler Konferenzen Einfluss auf den wissenschaftlichen Diskurs. Die jeweiligen Ableger arbeiten hierbei zumeist zu regionalen bzw. nationalen Themenschwerpunkten. Für das Jahr 2009 finden sich auf der Website des Zentrums in Wien vier Veröffentlichungen, vornehmlich Forschungsprojekte und für 2010 drei, darunter eine internationale Konferenz. Die Themen reichen von der Entwicklung der Kapitalmärkte zur wirtschaftlichen Regionalentwicklung in europäischen Grenzregionen.
