Haya van Someren Foundation/VVD International aims to develop international relations with liberal parties in democratic transition areas. The main objective is to maintain and reinforce relations with the liberal parties and to contribute to democratization in the Balkans, Eastern Europe and the MENA region.
The Haya van Somerenstichting/VVD International focuses on five policy areas:
- World-wide bilateral contacts with like-minded parties and organizations;
- International networks (the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, Liberal International);
- Public support activities on international cooperation and Haya van Someren Foundation /VVD International;
- The Matra programme;
- The Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD).
Since 1994 the VVD (Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie or People's Party for Freedom and Democracy) participates in the Matra programme, which is facilitated by the Political Parties Programme of the Matra Programme of the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The Matra programme concentrates on supporting activities that strengthen liberal-minded political parties and groupings in Central and Eastern Europe and the MENA region. The Matra programme aims at supporting the transition to a multiform, constitutional society in the European Neighborhood countries.
The International Secretary, who also is a member of the VVD National Executive Committee, heads the Haya van Somerenstichting/VVD International. Currently Jock Geselschap holds the position of International secretary. Our international programme officers, Wouter Schröer and Friso Rip run the daily office.[1]

Notes
This section is used to note presumptions that need further investigation, as well as things that don't fit into other sections.
The founding year is deduced from the following two informations:
»Vanwege haar aandacht voor training en opleiding tijdens haar voorzitterschap is het opleidingsinstituut van de VVD sinds 1981 naar Haya van Someren vernoemd: de Haya van Somerenstichting.«[2]
»De Haya van Somerenstichting – kortweg de Haya – is al 30 jaar het opleidingsinstituut van de VVD.«[3]
